Muluzi sued for Bakili Bullets' K1.3m meals

Bakili Bullets Football Club, sponsored by former President Bakili Muluzi, has been dragged to court by a restaurateur in Blantyre for failing to pay an outstanding food bill of about K1.3 million taken by football players.
Documents at the High Court Civil Registry in Blantyre in a civil cause number 2661, Kips Restaurant and Ice Cream Centre in Blantyre has taken the registered trustees of the football club, who include the former president, for the outstanding amount.
“The plaintiff claim is for the sum of K1,299,701.63 being the price of food that the defendant’s football club, Bakili Bullets, ate at its restaurant particulars whereof have already been supplied to the defendant,” reads part of the statement of claim.
Kips restaurant is also claiming interest on the sum pursuant to section 11(a)(v) of the Courts Act.
“The plaintiff further claims costs of this action,” reads the statement of claim filed by lawyers Tembenu, Masumbu & Company representing the restaurant in the case.
The statement of claim is dated September 8, 2004 and there has been no intention to defend the matter from the football club.
Muluzi is chairman of Bullets’ registered trustees who also include Yusuf Matumula, Rashid Nembo, Paul Maulidi and Gaston Mwenelupembe.
