Bakili Bullets’ vice treasurer Kondi Msungama this week scorned relegation- threatened Super Escom, saying the electricians could not have blown their top on Bullets if they known the consequences of offering the three league points to another relegation-haunted side Mafco.
Escom joined the onslaught against Bullets when the latter failed to meet a deadline for settling transfer fees for players recruited from other teams including the electrician’s own former winger Emmanuel Chipatala.
Sulom eventually awarded three points to Mafco after Bullets had featured the players in question in their league game against the soldiers in Zomba. The Bullets won 2-1 on the pitch.
Commenting on the situation, Msungama said: “Had we not been robbed of our three points, Mafco would have been relegation material but the points awarded to Mafco put a lot of pressure on Escom. Should Mafco get the full points against Moyale Barracks, Escom is likely to go and this should serve as a lesson to the electricians,” scorned Msungama.
But Escom’s coach Stewart Mbolembole dismissed Msungama, saying the league started long time back.
“The league started long time back and if we were to remain in the league, we could have made hay while the sun was shining. If we are to point a finger at somebody then its Bakili Bullets because the players’ issue could not have risen had they paid for the players,” said Mbolembole.
Escom have finished the Bakili Muluzi Super League on position five from the bottom with 33 points from 28 games and are likely to be overtaken by Mafco, should the solders beat Moyale Barracks. Currently Mafco has 32 points and a game to go.
