Another window of opportunity has opened for Flames’ forward Russell Mwafulirwa in France where he has been invited for trials at second division side Angers SCO.
The lanky striker, who turns out for South African top flight league side Jomo Cosmos, is set to leave on Thursday.
That’s not all. There is a double dose of opportunity for the gangly striker, his manager Ben Chiwaya disclosed on Tuesday that Russian top league outfit Lokomotiv Moscow has also offered him two weeks trials.
Chiwaya said Mwafulirwa has chosen to have a go at the French team first where he thinks he can easily make it before proceeding to the Russian realm famous for its passion for the Vodka spirit.
“The ball was in his court. I asked him where he would want to try his luck first and he feels France should be his first destination because he thinks that’s where he can easily make it.
“Russell is already in the country and I am currently processing his visa. We are keeping fingers crossed that it should be processed by at least Wednesday because Angers want him on that day,” said Chiwaya.
He said the French side decided to invite the lean striker after watching his highlights on video tapes.
“They also saw him play in a youth tournament that was held in France last year and then they contacted Jomo to see if they could have him for trials,” said Chiwaya.
This is not the first time that Mwafulirwa will be going to France for trials, he also underwent unsuccessful tests at another second division side SC Amiens earlier this year. He blamed his failure on an ankle injury.
Chiwaya, who is also a locally-based talent scout for Cosmos, said former Sundowns coach Viktor Bondarenko’s son who oiled the wheels for Essau Kanyenda’s move to Russia, is also behind Mwafulirwa’s invitation for trials in Russia.
