Bingu appoints deputy army boss

President Bingu wa Mutharika has appointed Lieutenant General Ernest Clement Ntonya as the new Deputy Army Commander.
He replaces General Marko Chiziko who is the current Army Commander.
According to spokesperson for Malawi Army Colonel Clement Namangale, Ntonya was commissioned officer in 1974 at the Royal Military Academy in the UK.
“He has held several positions in the Ministry of Defence,” said Namangale
He explained that among other positions, Ntonya was appointed as Platoon Commander in 1976, Second in Command for Malawi Army Air Wing in 1980, director of logistics in Ministry of Defence in 1998, Director of Military Intelligence in 1999 and Chief of Staff in 2001
He did his pilot course and military training courses in different countries like USA, West Germany and Israel, Namangale added.
Ntonya, 52, hails from Chiradzulu.
