Danish second division side Herfoelege Klub has changed its tune on signing Malawian midfielder Peter Mgangira saying its priority is taking on board a natural left winger and not a central midfield player.
Former Flames coach Kim Splidsboel who oiled the wheels for the South African-based midfielder’s Danish voyage confirmed through an SMS message that Herfoelege had decided not to sign the stylish player.
“Peter played two test matches for Herfoelege and he was very impressive but they are desperate for a natural left winger. They praised Peter as being a very good player and they wish him all the best,” reads part of Splidsboel’s message.
Splidsboel also insisted that Mgangira had not failed trials.
“I have arranged trials for him with a first division side next week,” Splidsboel further stated.
Mgangira’s locally-based manager Ben Chiwaya, who initially told the press that the player would sign an outright contract, confirmed the development on Sunday saying: “I got a message from Kim on Saturday that the Danish club will not sign Peter because they were looking for a natural left winger.”
But why did Herfoelege go ahead to try Mgangira when their main interest was on a left winger?
“I wouldn’t really answer that question at the moment. Perhaps they thought Peter would easily fit on the left side position, that’s one thing I have to confirm with Kim,” said Chiwaya.
He said Mgangira’s trip and insurance cover have been sponsored by Cosmos and therefore the player will remain in Denmark as long as there are prospects of clinching a deal.
