My Prediction
by Leonard Sharra, 30 July 2004 - 15:45:01
We will ‘enyimba’ them
News about Bakili Bullets’ embarrassing 6-0 defeat in Nigeria has dominated both sports pages and cartoons this week. I will not resist the temptation of commenting on the subject.
Most Malawians did not watch their beloved team, fondly called ‘The People’s Team,’ being butchered by the merciless Nigerians but coach Kinnah Phiri and his captain Peter Mponda have explained the result though they gave different versions.
Peter said he and his colleagues could not cope up with the system used by Enyemba or is it Enyimba but Kinnah is solely blaming the loss on the water logged pitch. The explanation by Kinnah means BB played on a muddy pitch while the hosts used a dry pitch.
My view is that the Bullets goofed by accepting to play on a muddy pitch. They could have insisted to use the dry turf which Enyimba used.
My other finger of blame will point on Atcheya, for giving his boys wrong mangolomela. I remember when dishing out the K50,000s at his BCA Hill residence, Atcheya said he was giving the boys mangolomela to do well. But the team is yet to register a win in the league stages.
Today the Malawi national chess team is facing Blantyre All Stars in a friendly encounter which is part of the national team’s preparations for the 36th Chess Olympiad slated for Spain in October.
I will be featuring in the national team and my message to the guys okhala ku Blantyre koma…is that they should not dream of beating us. We are going to ‘enyimba’ them.
