Kafwafwa demands refund
by Garry Chirwa, 28 June 2004 - 09:31:33
Danish-based defender Clement Kafwafwa said on Sunday that he is reluctant to join the Flames who are preparing for Saturday’s joint World Cup and Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea unless Fam commits itself to reimburse the money he used on air travel.
The towering defender, who turns out for Danish second division side Holbaek, arrived in the country on Wednesday on off-season holiday.
“I am not here for the Guinea game, in fact I learnt about my call-up when I read in The Nation in Nairobi on Tuesday.
“Honestly I didn’t know anything. Neither myself nor my club was contacted by Fam, but I am willing to join the squad on condition that they should refund the money used for my trip from Denmark.
“In fact, I spoke to Fam general secretary Mr [Roosvelt] Mpinganjira yesterday (Friday) and he assured me that he would take it up with Sports Council and I am just waiting,” said Kafwafwa.
He said his team ended the season on a respectable third position in the 16-team second division.
“We missed promotion by a whisker because the team that won the championship were just a point ahead of us. Things are going on well and I can say I have now settled down in Denmark.
“I am very optimistic that we’ll do even much better next season,” said Kafwafwa who joined the Danish club from MDC United earlier on this year at a fee of K400,000.
