Hanjahanja dies

Malawi’s ambassador to Zimbabwe William Hanjahanja died on Tuesday morning at Avenues Clinic in Harare, Zimbabwe of heart failure.
The late Hanjahanja, 67, a former High Court judge was appointed Malawi’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe by former President Bakili Muluzi on September 27, 2003 after retiring as a judge in April 2003.
Deputy director of administration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambrose Mzoma said on Tuesday the late Hanjahanja’s body will arrive at Chileka Airport this afternoon and burial arrangements will be announced later.
He said the late Hanjahanja was put on a life supporting machine on June 9 at Avenues Clinic until his death on Tuesday morning. Mzoma said the late Hanjahanja was on May 17 this year operated on for a kidney problem.
He worked as a journalist, a lawyer in government and private practice and also as a High Court Judge from 1996 to April 2003. The late Hanjahanja also chaired the Malawi Electoral Commission from July 1998 to April 1999.
Mzoma said the late Hanjahanja is survived by a wife and six children and some grandchildren.
