Armed robbers on Monday killed one woman and injured another when they hijacked their two vehicles as the ladies were taking children to private schools in Limbe, Blantyre at around 7:30 in the morning.
Reports said on Monday the robbers went on to rob a shop in Limbe called Jubilee Investment Limbe using the hijacked cars and went away with about K4 million ($37,383) in cash.
Sources who did not want to be named said the robbers waylaid the vehicles just close to the Machinjiri Road and shot their owners
Owner of Jubilee Investment Limited, who did not want to be named as he said he was still scared of the armed robbers, said he knew of the armed robberies as they happened minutes before he went to drop his child at Central High School.
“I found a group of people milling around where the hijacking had taken place just as I was dropping my child,” said the shop’s owner.
He said he was surprised to see the robbers coming to his shop at around 2:30 PM where, he said, they took away a lot of money.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I have told the police what has happened. I am now scared,” said the shop owner.
People in around the shop were wondering why the police had not yet gotten hold of the hijacked cars since they were still driving around Blantyre seven hours after they were hijacked.
Police public relations office had no report of the incident. Both the Commissioner of Police (South) Often Thyolani and Limbe officer-in-charge, a Mr. Saliwa said they did not have reports on the incident.
