Shield for nomads
After one week of surprises, the Charity Shield competition has reached its final stages with four teams, two each from Lilongwe and Blantyre battling for the last two places at the giant Chichiri Stadium in the afternoon. But the D-Day is Sunday when the two winners of today’s matches will come face to face at the same venue.
The competition started last Saturday with Salima-based soldiers Mafco pulling the first shock after beating favourites Civo 2-1. This was after the column had predicted that Mafco and Mzadd would face early exists.
The prediction did not go down well with some Mafco fans and players who mocked the columnist as their Tata truck was leaving Lilongwe Community Centre. Came Monday the soldiers were out of the competition after posing fierce resistance to Silver Strikers.
With what happened to Mafco, others were saying I was right that they would face an early exit from the shield but others said I goofed because Mafco beat Civo in the first game.
To cut the debate, I am accepting that I goofed and my congratulations to Mafco’s coach Moffat Chilanga and his boys for ending the column’s streak.
With the correct predictions I have been making in the past two months, some politicians have been trying to find out from me which party will win the May 18 polls. With permission from my bosses, I may answer this question in next week’s edition. I will also reveal the measures I will take if Atcheya does not consider me in the issue of K75,000s ($700).
Lastly let me congratulate MTL Wanderers for revenging the defeats they suffered at the hands of Blue Eagles and Super Escom in the Super League first round. On Saturday afternoon the nomads will hit Eagles before stabbing Escom in the final on Sunday.
