Football Association of Malawi (Fam) on Thursday said camping for the country’s national soccer team will take place at the Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu after the association’s decision to pay the outstanding K680,335 ($6,358) debt owed to the institution.
Fam’s spokesperson McCollins Chibvunde said on Thursday Fam to pay because the charges by Blantyre hotels are too high for a two-week camp.
“The players are going to camp at Kamuzu Academy because hotels in Blantyre are charging us between K3 million and K5 million for just two weeks,” said Chibvunde, adding that the cheque for the payment was ready.
Chibvunde explained that when the Flames camp at the Kamuzu Academy, Fam spends less than K1 million which cannot be compared to the K4 million or so charges they get in Blantyre.
He also said Fam’s administrative officer Lawrence Waya had already started to communicate with the players and officials on the change of venue.
The Flames were supposed to start training on Thursday at Chichiri Stadium, but it was indefinitely postponed due to the change.
Kamuzu Academy’s accounts assistant Holyfield Chamadenga told Nation Online last week the debt has been outstanding for almost year.
