It was a fantastic performance, absolutely superb as vastly superior Total Big Bullets yesterday swept aside a distinctly mediocre MDC United 3-1 in a second round K2.5 Chibuku Super League clash at the giant Chichiri Stadium.
On Saturday, the high scoring Bullets clobbered Illovo 6-1 in another league match played at the same venue.
The steamrolling Bullets, who are chasing their fourth successive title, still stand proudly at the summit of the top flight league with 40 points from 16 games.
Revived racy forward Jones Nkhwazi was the toast of the day for Bullets with a commendably rousing performance that was spiced up with a magnificent hat-trick.
It was really an eye-catching display by the marauding Bullets as they exposed the Soccer Saints on the big stage.
Nkhwazi drew first blood barely a minute into the game through a penalty awarded after towering defender Clement Kafwafwa had handled in the box. Nkhwazi’s spot-kick sent Saints’ goal tender Kachibowo Malunga the wrong way.
Suitably jolted, MDC failed to piece together their usual game and were made to run around by the Bullets with Peter Mponda delivering a masterclass of midfield supremacy.
Nkhwazi added the second in the 53rd minute when he struck home a beautiful cross from James Chimera.
He finally grabbed a hat-trick in the 70th minute with a fierce drive that gave helpless Malunga no chance.
MDC’s midfielder Robert ‘Baggio’ Ng’ambi reduced the arrears in injury time with a glancing header from Dave ‘Ngeya’ Kamanga’s corner kick.
Against Illovo on Saturday, the Bullets came from a goal down scored by veteran Peter Kaunda five minutes into the game through a penalty after a deliberate handball by defender Petros Mwalweni to clobber the Lower Shire Giants.
James Chilapondwa equalised four minutes later before Mponda put the Bullets in the lead with a marvellous volley in the 26th minute.
The Bullets were awarded a penalty in the 37th minute after Illovo’s Nixon Mphwandiya had handled in the danger zone which Nkhwazi calmly converted.
Bullets went on to score three more goals in the second half through Muzipasi Mwangonde, Rahim Ishmail and James Chimera.
Bullets boss Hassam Jussab said after the game:
“I feel sorry for MDC’s team manager Simon Mkandawire, he talks too much, what is he going to say now...if at all he has something to say.” |
