Pullu happily steps down
by Chisomo Kachapila, 02 April 2004 - 14:38:54

The 2003 Miss Malawi Mable Pullu says she has happily stepped out of the limelight to pave way for the current Miss Malawi after what she describes as a successful term of office.
“My term of office has been an eventful year with no scandals and I hope the new Miss will continue to preserve the integrity of the office,” said Pullu in an interview after handing over the mantle to Florence Zeka last Friday at Chichiri Conference Centre in Blantyre.
Pullu, who disclosed that she has a steady boyfriend who she hopes to marry in future, applauded the organisation of the event which attracted 16 contestants as opposed to last year’s nine and increased the prize money from K100,000 to K250,000.
“I am happy with the choice of the top three, they deserved to win,” she added.
Meanwhile, Pullu, a holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Nutrition and Food Science from Bunda College of Agriculture, intends to concentrate on her work as a nutritionist with the Ministry of Agriculture. She will work closely with Unicef and UNAids in fighting against Aids.
As a role model, Mable has done a number of radio and television adverts with HIV and Aids messages, courtesy of National Aids Commission (Nac) emphasising on the need for the youth to change behaviour to prevent contracting the pandemic.
Apart from that she made donations to a number of orphanages as well as the disabled in the country with items she sourced from some companies or through fund-raising activities.
