MTL Zambian imports expensive
by Oris Chimenya, 31 March 2004 - 16:39:25

MTL Wanderers said on Wednesday that four Zambian players who the team wanted to get on loan are not joining the team because of financial constraints.
MTL Wanderers chairman Humphrey Mvula disclosed on Wednesday that the players—Felix Phiri, Abraham Mwila, Lloyd Siame and Michael Lungu— performed well during the trials but added that they were not better than most local players.
“They will not come. Obviously the team now has more foreign players,” said Mvula.
The team’s general secretary Aubrey Monjeza said: “They are not coming because they were looking for a lot of money. But now we have Zimbabwe players who are free agents,” said Monjeza.
Monjeza also said the price tags placed on the Zambian players was also very discouraging.
“Their teams wanted US$ 9,000 for the players. And they also wanted US$1,000 per player to be paid to the Zambian football association,” explained Monjeza.
