MTL Wanderers blooming midfielder Haji Tambala is reported to have sneaked out to Zimbabwe where a Premier Soccer League side Sporting Lions have expressed interest to take him on board.
The nomads general secretary Aubrey Monjeza confirmed the development Tuesday saying the bow-legged midfielder left the country about two weeks ago.
“We were actually surprised to learn that Haji is in Zimbabwe because what he told us was that he was going to his home village to attend his mother’s funeral. As a club we gave him K10,000 towards the funeral but we later on learnt that he had left for Zimbabwe,” said Monjeza.
The nomads spokesman said making the matter even more complicated, Tambala trained with Sporting Lions and gave them the impression he did not belong to Lali Lubani Road.
“Fam has just given us a copy of a letter from Sporting Lions who are seeking Tambala’s clearance. From the contents of the letter, it would appear that Haji told the club that he was a fee-agent and last played for Bakili Bullets,” explained Monjeza.
The Wanderers’ general secretary said they have since written Lions informing them that Tambala is Wanderers property and if anything they should first negotiate with them.
“We are failing to understand why he behaved in such a manner because whatever shortcuts he might have wanted to take, there would still have been need to get clearance from us. It is very unfortunate that he behaved in such a way,” said Monjeza.
Tambala as well as Sporting Lions officials could not be reached for their comments in Harare yesterday.
Meanwhile, Monjeza has said that new catch from Zimbabwe Benard Benisi and Sandros Kumwenda have been cleared by the immigration department.
