Nomads sign up Ng’onamo
by Garry Chirwa, 03 March 2004 - 14:18:42

MTL Wanderers, a side battling to pull through from an ocean of problems, has engaged former national soccer team coach Eddie Ng’onamo in its desperate attempt to turn things around.
The nomads’ chair Humphrey Mvula confirmed the development Wednesday saying the British-trained coach has been taken on board for the next three months following successful negotiations with his employers National Sports Council.
“We first had discussions with the coach himself and he said he would have no problems taking up the challenge and thereafter we applied to Sports Council requesting if they could attach him to us.
“The Council has agreed in writing on condition that we meet contractual obligations in terms of salary and other benefits for the entire period that he will be with us,” said Mvula.
The nomads’ boss said they had settled for Ng’onamo because of his high qualifications and experience.
“He is somebody we hope will take the team beyond where it is today...we think a combination of Ng’onamo and our technical director Yasin Osman will provide a recipe of a winning formula,” said Mvula.
Ng’onamo arrived in Blantyre from his base in Lilongwe on Tuesday and started his new task yesterday morning at Country Club Limbe where he was introduced to his new charges.
Ng’onamo, who was assistant coach when the Flames twice qualified for the regional Cosafa Castle Cup finals in 2002 and last year, warned the nomads family that they should not expect miracles.
“I am very happy to take up the challenge. It will not be easy considering the problems that have been there, but I’m made to believe that things are being sorted out and I am hopeful that we’ll soon be cruising in the right direction.
“Wanderers has a pool of talent and if I’ll be given the necessary support by all the stateholders—players, officials as well as the fans, the team will get back on its feet...but as I said I don’t promise the moon,” said Ng’onamo.
He has taken over from Kannock ‘Bruno’ Munde who was drilling the team on a temporary basis.
