The National Sports Council has stuck to its guns stressing that it will not recognise Fifa’s directive that the entire Fam executive which was elected into office in December last year should be reinstated temporarily.
Fifa wrote the country’s troubled soccer governing body last week dictating that the executive which was elected at the association’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) should run the daily business of Fam until new elections are conducted under totally satisfactory conditions.
But the council’s executive secretary George Jana never took his foot off the pedal on Tuesday insisting that the sports governing body still does not recognise the four elected members including deposed president Sameer Suleman who failed to submit their Malawi Schools Certificates of Education (MSCE).
The others that three who were ousted because of their failure to produce the certificates were second veep Steve Msambila and executive members Peter Chavula and Raphael Humba.
Jana also said the council has written Fifa asking for clarification on some of the issues raised in its letter.
“Their (Fifa) letter is vague...and so we have written them asking for clarification. We have asked them to clear the air when they say new elections should be conducted under totally satisfactory conditions, they should tell us exactly what they mean by that.
“And again when they say officers elected on December 27, should run the show for the time being, do they mean everybody who was elected because as far as we are concerned the others were not elected by simple reason that they had not qualified...they were not elected constitutionally because they failed to meet the educational requirement as stipulated in the constitution,” explained Jana.
The council boss also said Fifa did not state as to whether the nullification of the elections are for all the positions or only the four that did not qualify following their failure to submit their certificates.
“If the nullification is for all the positions then effectively it means that the elections of December 27 were nullified and therefore how can people that were elected in a nullified election continue to run the association from now until the next election? To us that does not make sense and should not happen,” stressed Jana.
He added: “Thirdly we are saying if they are saying those that did not qualify should also run the association for the time being then we are wondering whether they respect the constitution...they will be propagating the idea that the constitution should not be respected and that people should handle such important issues they way they want.
“So depending on their feedback then we will act accordingly, otherwise as at now we will not go by what Fifa is saying until a clarification is made,” stated Jana.
He also had a small lecture for Fifa: “What Fifa needs to realise is that these people are running football in Malawi and not in Fifa and in Malawi we want football to be run the proper way i.e by following the constitution.
“And if Fifa wants to say in Malawi you can run football without following the constitution then that’s their problem. We believe we have very little to lose by Fifa suspending us because we are not listening to what they are saying.” |
