The Zambian table tennis national team failed show up for friendly matches against Malawian counterparts last month in the capital Lilongwe because they were waiting for funding from their government, it has been revealed.
In an e-mail addressed to the general secretary of Table Tennis Association of Malawi (TTAM) Floriano Massa, president for the Table Tennis Association of Zambia Charles Chenda said: “We were waiting for confirmation from the Ministry for Transport and some logistics. The ministry promised a bus for the trip to Malawi but nothing had been done.”
Chenda assured that the trip would definitely be on in due course.
“Please rest be assured that we will be coming to Malawi despite what initially may appear to be a setback,” said the president.
But Massa said his team was very prepared for the friendlies and could have beaten the Zambians because the players had improved tremendously.
“They were supposed to play against national team on Saturday December 20 in the morning and meet university in the afternoon while on Sunday they were supposed to meet Muslim Sports Club before taking on the national team in the afternoon,” said Massa.,The Zambian table tennis national team failed show up for friendly matches against Malawian counterparts last month in the capital Lilongwe because they were waiting for funding from their government, it has been revealed.
