Alliance for Democracy (Aford) former secretary general Dan Msowoya has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to clarify and declare the lawful and legitimate status of the party in the House.
Msowoya, in his letter to Speaker of Parliament Davis Katsonga, copied to the Clerk of Parliament advised him to disregard the coalition between the ruling United Democratic Front and Aford, because “it is just a passion and unilateral decision exclusive to an individual, Dr. Chakufwa Chihana”.
“It is abundantly clear in the foregoing that the conduct of the incumbent is blatant conflict of interest. It is not fair Mr. Speaker, and it is also morally incorrect to subordinate public interests to personal gains or profit,” said Msowoya in his letter.
But Aford’s deputy publicity secretary Khwauli Msiska in an interview on Tuesday described Msowoya’s letter and school of thought as a confusion.
“It shows he is out of touch from reality. By writing to the Speaker it just shows ignorance. It was unnecessary for him to write directly to the Speaker. Msowoya does not hold any position of influence in the party and he should learn to follow the normal channel,” said Msiska.
Msiska also challenged Msowoya to go through his Member of Parliament.
Clerk of Parliament Roosevelt Gondwe in a separate interview said he could not comment on the letter because he had not received it.
“I don’t know about the said letter, I am not in the office and the Speaker is out to United Kingdom. Those are technical issues and I cannot just comment off hand, let’s wait for the Speaker so that I can confer with him,” said Gondwe.
But Msowoya maintains that he has a right to speak on issues that many members of the party feels they are leading to destruction of its strength.
“I appeal to the you (Speaker) to show remorse for a party widely acknowledged as the epitome of change in this country. Parliament through you, sir, must offer solutions and not be part of the problem,” says Msowoya.
