Just a few months after being christened Sun ‘n’ Sand, the Mpingwe Club hockey outfit has carted the prestigious Monolux Hockey Trophy to the lakeshore resort after emerging league champions.
And they have done it in style—with a clean unbeaten record which gave them 18 points from eight wins and three draws.
“It’s a great achievement to win the trophy again after three years,” said an elated coach/player Shiraz Zaveri on Tuesday. “I would like to thank the sponsors Sun ‘n’ Sand for making it possible through their backing and of course the players.”
“This year we brought in more good young players like Vali Mahomed Tariq, Bilar Chachia, Daudi Chachia, Wasim Raidhan, Mahomed Raidhan, Imran Nathvan, Hanif Safwan, Emmanuel Madeya and Ralph Jinzari who blended well with the senior players,” said Zaveri, who hoped the sponsors will smile on them again next season.
Also congratulating the team and sponsors, was player/manager Farouk Bhana who said that it had been a great season, especially after also winning the DStv Trophy after beating Nyala in the final 5-4 in post-match penalties.
