Outspoken Mzuzu and Districts Football League chairperson Julius Mithi has rejected an order that a regional Fam body arbitrate his stand off with his secretary Lovemore Kawunga Nyirenda.
Fam Vice President Sanida Chunga ordered last week that Fam’s Northern Region Football Committee (NRFC) negotiate a truce between the two bickering officials.
”First of all it is not possible and secondly it is unnecessary. The arbitrating committee (NRFC) is just a sub-committee and as such they have no powers to arbitrate in issues of affiliates,” Mithi.
The MDFL boss snubbed the whole idea of arbitration arguing that the matter on hand is internal personal differences that does not need any ‘external negotiators’.
”Its not necessary to arbitrate because first of all the game is not affected in any way. Yes, I disagreed with the secretary but it is clearly on personal grounds and I fear this is not something that can be corrected by the arbitration,” he said.
Mithi is facing charges of alleged financial mismanagement and mopolising duties as filed by Nyirenda. Mithi denies both charges.
In a separate interview, a rather relieved Nyirenda accepted the arbitration team to stop ‘the unfortunate standoff with his boss’.
”I welcome them. May be then we will solve this and see where things going wrong so that we correct them. The trouble is that my boss is a one man show addict and sidelines us in most of the crucial issues,” he said.
Nyirenda claims he has an ace card to prove his case at the arbitration but maintains his boss is guilty of financial mismanagement.
”I stand by my accusations and I will testify at the hearing evidence that will prove my case. It is not a personal issue but an administrative anomaly and I will prove it right there,” says, adding that he is not trying to pull his boss down.
Mithi on the other hand argued that he had attempted to involve his secretary but Nyirenda chose to stay away from his meetings.
”When we were drawing the fixture he is accusing me of imposing, we called him but he never showed up. Did we have to wait for him when he deliberately chose to stay away? I don’t think so,” he asked.
NRFC chair was reportedly out in Chitipa on other duties when we went to press.
