Abby is out of BBA
by BBA website/The Nation, 19 August 2003 - 17:57:47
She was one half of a red-hot romance with Ugandan Gaetano Kagwa but for Abby Plaatjies, the Big Brother Africa (BBA) experience is over! The boisterous South African became the fifth housemate evicted from the reality TV show screened on M-Net and DStv.
This was the first time that the 25-year-old fraud consultant was up for nomination alongside new nominees Gaetano and Cherise. Completing the nominated quartet was Tanzania’s Mwisho who has now survived his second consecutive nomination.
After an emotional week that saw Abby enthusiastically completing the elegant ballroom task and then crying during a diary session with Big Brother on Friday afternoon, the Port Elizabeth born, Johannesburg based housemate made her way through the BBA doors early in tonight’s show to embrace family and friends outside the house.
She was then whisked off into the BBA studio to chat with the show’s host Mark Pilgrim before leaving for a press conference. She has spent the last two days in back-to-back media interviews, completing a photo-shoot and on Tuesday night was expected to be the centre of attention at a glamourous eviction party at the Kilimanjaro Nightclub in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, after Abby’s eviction, the show crossed back into the monitored house where the remaining seven housemates were asked to cast their nominations for next week’s eviction.
It was the first time in BBA that the programme evicted a housemate and then held a nomination session in one live show.
The nomination votes were tallied and Bayo, Cherise, Gaetano, Mwisho and Warona found themselves in the danger zone. One of them will leave the house next Sunday. That show will also have an early eviction followed by another nomination session.
