Lack of physical fitness among most Malawian athletes, especially those living in Lilongwe, will be a thing of the past following a donation of high-tech gym equipment by the Germany government to Malawi government.
Presenting the equipment at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe, deputy German Ambassador to Malawi, Peter Mende pointed out that sports plays a major role in ordinary people’s lives and nation development.
“It is pleasing to note that most world class athletes are coming from Africa. Malawi has one athlete (Catherine Chikwakwa), who is currently training in Germany and it is my hope that this country will soon produce a world class athlete,” said Mende.
Sports Minister Henderson Mabeti, who received the equipment on behalf of the Malawi government, hailed Germany for its continued support to Malawi.
“This is not the first time the German government has assisted Malawi. My records show that Germany has on several occasions assisted sports organizations like Athletics Association of Malawi, Cycling Association of Malawi, Football Association of Malawi and other sports disciplines,” he said.
