Mother luck has smiled at the Capital City Lilongwe Squash League as it has landed K55, 000 sponsorship from Malawi’s sole distributors of Xerox and Duplo machines, Xerographics Ltd.
The sponsorship will be used for running the Lilongwe Squash League which has been operating without sponsorship for some years.
Apart from providing the sponsorship, Xerographics, which also deals in IBM products, has pledged to sponsor one of the teams in the league which will now be called Xerox IBM squash team.
Speaking when presenting the sponsorship at Xerographics’ ultra modern showroom at Lilongwe’s City Centre, the company’s managing director Nasser Tayub said it was his organisation’s goal to promote different kinds of sporting activities.
“Our aim is to promote every sporting activity other than one type of sport only. We have been sponsoring golf, football, netball and hockey and when we were approached by Lilongwe Squash League for assistance, we did not hesitate to respond.
“We feel have a moral obligation of giving back what we get from the public,” said Tayub.
Lilongwe Squash League president Jimmy Kawaye praised Xerographics for the sponsorship.
“We are very thankful to the sponsors. We did not have any sponsorship and this is the first time we are getting a sponsorship of this magnitude. We are looking forward to a continued good relationship with Xerographics,” said Kawaye.
Kawaye said the league, which has eight teams will play its games every Thursdays at Capital Hotel, Lilongwe Golf Club and Moslem Sports Club. The teams include Xerox IBM, Moslem Sports Club, Dimon, Reserve Bank of Malawi, Capital Hotel, Donors, Kenyan Airways and Lilongwe Golf Club.
