Financially cleaned-out Michiru Castles, who are on the verge of a complete crack-up, have regrouped to wind up the season at the weekend against Silver Strikers in a Super League match.
Team manager Lloyd Mthimba said Thursday that the club resumed serious training last week hoping against all odds that a silver lining will appear in the dark clouds hovering above them.
“Fortunately some well wishers and officials came forward and offered to assist us financially to see us through the season. We are currently preparing for our weekend game against Silver,” said Mthimba.
Mthimba also said his team will ask Fam to reschedule their forfeited games against Moyale Barracks and Mzuni.
“While we agree that we failed to travel to Mzuzu for the games due to financial problems, Fam also fixed two other games involving MDC United at the same venue and on the same dates.
“We therefore asked them to postpone our games based on our complaint that we could not share gate collections with three other teams considering our difficult financial position. Fam never came back to us at that time and we are hoping that they will reschedule the games,” explained Mthimba.
He added that with the promised financial assistance from well wishers, the team can now make it to Mzuzu.
But Fam public relations and marketing officer Isabel Maziya said later that Castles’ request to reschedule the games cannot pass because the points were already awarded to Moyale and Mzuni.
“The games involving MDC United were postponed and therefore Castles would have still travelled to Mzuzu at that time which they didn’t and therefore had their games forfeited,” said Maziya.
Castles are currently second from the bottom of the 16 team top league with 10 points from 29 games.
