The Flames stated on Thursday they are not panic-stricken on the prospects of lining up against Nigerian stars on their home soil in Abuja tomorrow in the Africa Nations Cup qualifier.
Leader of delegation Hastings Kapenuka said from Hilton Hotel where the team is booked in Abuja that the Flames are very relaxed and look forward to the battle.
“Of course the fans are talking tough here. Most of the Nigerian stars are also here and there is big hype in the countdown to the match, but the boys are not moved.
“Some of the home fans have been flashing victory signs whenever they recognise the Malawi team bus, but the boys have remained calm and focussed, there is no sign that they are frightened,” said Kapenuka.
He added that the Flames will have a feel of the new stadium in Abuja, venue of the match this afternoon.
Meanwhile Nigerian England-based superstars Nwankwo Kanu and captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha finally joined the Eagles yesterday.
Nigerian Football Association (NFA) press officer Raji Mohammed told www.kickoffnigeria.com: “We have almost a full house now with the arrival of Okocha and Kanu. Also in are Joseph Yobo, Isaac Okoronkwo and Austin Ejide.
“This is a very good development and everything now points to victory over Malawi.”
Mohammed was further quoted as saying Israel-based Chukwudi Nworgu and Garba Lawal are now the only players still being expected.
