A new classic Executive Club, the Pyramid Club, opened in lower Biwi township in Lilongwe last Friday promising to give Capital City imbibers hot, sizzling braais and cold beers.
Patrons started pouring in around 7:30 PM to be in time for the grand opening at 8:30PM that gave the first ten ladies and gentlemen, free entrance, to save a K100 gate fee.
Entertainment lovers who have fallen in love with the newly opened Chez Ntemba, another popular haven in the city, found Pyramid club another appropriate haven for them because of the similarity of the joints in the interior design, especially the lounge and the dancing arena.
Boasting of a spacious oval shaped tinted glass-walled interiors with a Portuguese styled bar, the club gave the capital imbibers first class entertainment with both sizzling braais and ice cold beers trading at a normal bottlestore price despite the place being too good to be compared to a bottle store.
Director Ben Liyati-Phiri, who joined the patrons during the grand opening, said his club has come to offer a difference to club entertainment which is normally associated with expensive beers and braais.
“Everything will be cheap. We want our patrons to drink from a classic and security tight club at the same price with ordinary drinking spots, save for a K100 gate fee meant to maintain the dignity of the place.
“As you have seen, ours is state-of-the-art imported discotheque equipment designed for club entertainment. We want our patrons to be treated like kings that’s why we have tried to import the best modern disco equipment for disco,” he said.
DJ and club manager Jeff Gondwe alias ‘Fumbi Khobo’ was all smiles during the grand opening as he commanded the multitude of revellers to the dancing arena till the wee hours of Saturday when the club closed its doors for a recess till later around 8PM.
With DJ Fumbi Khobo in his cubicle overlooking the dancing floor, it was all fireworks as he dished both old and modern dancehall hits ranging from danceable Malawian hits, R&B;, soul, hip-hop, reggae, ragga, house, kwaito and ndombolo among others.
According to Liyati-Phiri, patrons should expect lots of surprises as the club is still developing.
He indicated that the other unused space in the club premises will be developed into a restaurant, stage for live bands and traditional dances and indoor games like pool, chess and darts which will have a permanent team sponsored by his club.
He said the club will be opening daily from 2:30PM where customers will be allowed to enter for free till 8:30PM when they will have to pay. From Thursday to Sunday, the club will only open from 8:30PM because of the special activities on the days.
