Sports minister Moses Dossi said Wednesday he paid for South African top club Jomo Cosmos’ owner Jomo Sono’s one night accommodation at Mount Soche Hotel from his pocket.
“Some people think that government paid for Sono’s accommodation while in the country, that is not the case. I paid K17,500 from my pocket as a Malawian who appreciates what the man has done for Malawian football,” said Dossi.
He added that government could not pay for Sono’s accommodation as planned earlier on because he had already made his own arrangements.
“But I still offered to pay for his accommodation for a night and he accepted,” said Dossi.
Cosmos’ locally-based representative Ben Chiwaya confirmed in a separate interview that the minister indeed paid Sono’s one night accommodation at the four-star hotel.
“We had already made our won arrangements that I would pay Sono and his family’s hotel expenses. Besides the minister, I personally paid K65,000 for food and accommodation for the Sono’s,” said Chiwaya.
