Flames coach Allan Gillett disclosed on Monday he will fly back to England later this week to sort out some technical issues with the English Football Association (FA).
The Briton, who is on a four month contract up to end May, said he will be in England for a couple of weeks.
“I have got a lot of stuff to do with the FA like organising courses. We also need equipment here and I would also want to see if I can arrange a trip to UK with the national team for training. In addition to that I have to see my family...so there are lots of things I have to do,” said Gillett.
The coach, who has only been in charge of the Flames for just over a month, brushed aside suggestions that he might go for good.
“My contract is still on and I have already started discussing with Fam regarding my future...I have spoken to the general secretary Chris Kamphinda Banda and he will be taking it up with Sports Council later this week.
“Obviously I would like to stay on and hopefully it will work out. I will be very disappointed if my contract will not be extended,” said Gillett.
He also said the Flames will reassemble at the end of this month in preparation for the regional Cosafa Castle Cup quarterfinals.
Commenting on Saturday’s clash against Nigeria, which the Flames lost 1-0, Gillett said: “Realistically Nigeria are a top side but I thought we would have handled them.
“I felt very sad for the crowd because they had high expectations so were the players and the entire coaching crew.”
He also admitted that Malawi’s chances to qualify for the Nations Cup final have lessened following Saturday’s loss.
“We have two away games and it will not be easy but we haven’t raised the white flag yet...
“To be very honest, Nigeria is a tough proposition away but we would like to develop and get to the top so playing Nigeria on their home soil will be a big challenge for the boys and they will want to give out their best,” said Gillett.
