Privatisation Commission plans to hold a number of public seminars to educate the public on how best they could participate in the privatisation programme, Information, Education and Communications Manager Susan Banda said on Friday.
Briefing the press in Blantyre, Banda said the purpose of the seminars is to inform the target audience of how best to put together a technical proposal, business plan and financial proposal to complete the transaction.
“In our experience, most Malawian bidders face capacity constraints in the above areas, resulting in some cases in submission of technically inadequate proposals. We hope the series of seminars will assist them accordingly in eliminating or minimising these constraints,” she said.
The seminars, Banda said, will be held regionally to those who will register interest.
The government launched the privatisation programme in 1996 to, among other objectives, increase Malawian participation in economic activities, increase efficiency in public entities and raise money for government.
Part of the funds realised from the programme have been used to finance development projects, including construction of school blocks and drilling boreholes.
Banda, who has worked at Malawi Investment Promotion Agency (Mipa) as an investment promotion executive and manager for the past three years, joined the commission on January 6 this year.
Apart from Chancellor College, Banda also studied at Missouri School of Journalism where she attained a Masters Degree in International Journalism.
