The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) on Saturday rewarded its long serving members of staff as part of a strategy to motivate and retain staff.
Malawi Standards Boards chairman Walter Chona said when he presented the awards in Blantyre that the bureau awarded the honours in recognition of the work different individuals do to uplift standards and quality issues in the country.
He said although the bureau was established in 1972 as a parastatal, its running and management has been a responsibility of individuals.
“They have contributed to the success over the past 31 years,” said Chona.
Among those who were rewarded under the Chairman’s Long Service Awards were MBS director general and deputy director general Austin Khulumula and Charles Malata Chirwa, who have served for 28 and 17 years, respectively.
Chona said the work of the bureau is more important now that the country pursues free market economic policies which has seen imports flooding the local market.
