The famed Big Brother show will be back on circuit in June, only this time a little different because 12 African countries, including Malawi, will each have an envoy on the reality show.
Multichoice Malawi’s sales and marketing manager Ben Nyirenda said Malawi has been identified as one of the countries that will send a candidate to the show that is broadcast live on television.
“There is loud thinking that this year’s Big Brother show will involve 12 African countries from West, East and Southern Africa,” he said.
Nyirenda explained that the producer and coordinator of the show Andy Mole was in the country with a team to sample the publicity potential for Big Brother in Malawi.
He said the team wanted to know how well people follow the show and whether the press are behind it.
“I am quite pleased to say that they were quite impressed with the Malawi setup and they are positive on the possibility of having a Malawian in the Big Brother House,” he said.
But how will the Malawian inmate be identified?
Nyirenda explained that the team will first send forms in the next two weeks to be available at Multichoice offices.
“The possible candidates will fill them out and bring back to Multichoice and we will send them to South Africa for short-listing, he said, “And then a team of experts will come from South Africa to make auditions after which they will make more auditions to test if they can psychologically and socially stay in the house for 160 days.”
Nyirenda said the show will run from June to early August.
“On our part as Multichoice Malawi we are looking at the passibility of having the highlights of the show on TVM and for maximum publicity we intend to work with one cellular company to enable viewers send SMS for voting purposes and we are appealing to both electronic and print media to support this initiative because it provides an opportunity to sell Malawi’s tourism potential.
“And we hope the team will select someone who is likeable and has good manners to win the one million rand prize,” he said.
Ferdinand Rabie emerged winner of the first Big Brother show two years ago while Richard Cawood won Big Brother 2 last year.
