It’s finally confirmed! After holding the nation in suspense, Miss Malawi organiser Carver Bhima has confirmed this year’s beauty contest is on at Le Meridien Mount Soche’s Njamba Room on the night of January 24.
Bhima said nine girls had registered by Monday this week and three more were expected to register by Saturday to bring the tally to 12.
“But as is usually the case, one or two are most likely to drop out because may be their parents have stopped them,” he said.
He said he hopes this year’s event will be an improvement on last year’s because Emma Designs have offered to sponsor traditional, beach and evening wear which will be uniformly tailored for all the girls.
Bhima noted that although they failed to send the reigning queen Blandina Mlenga to last year’s Miss World contest, hopes are high that they may send the winning lady to the world pageant this year.
“We have high hopes that we will be sending our national queen to the Miss World. There is no doubt that if we have good sponsorship we will send her but if the worse comes to the worst and we fail to get sponsorship like last year, then we will not send anyone,” he said.
