Kasambwe Brothers Band of the Awidzi Abwera fame are back in the studios, recording another album entitled Achule Muli Bwanji? which, according to their new promoter Katemba Kamlepo, is a masterpiece.
Kamlepo told Nation that the band went to Golden Studios in Ndirande last week and they are expected to be out by the end of this week.
“The album has 10 songs, all of them new. All the five band members were involved in the composition of the songs. I helped them with production and studio costs and I will also be responsible for the album’s promotion,” said Kamlepo, popularly known as Chipululu Nthano.
Kamlepo said Kasambwe are the first on a list of artists and groups to be assisted by his newly established Mudyabwino Promotions.
Mudyabwino Promotions was established last month after the release of Kamlepo’s folktale album Amdala Asankha Duntu Ku Motchale.
The promotion outfit, according to Kamlepo, is targeting upcoming artist in both music and genres that “have long been sidelined” like poetry, drama and folktale.
“From my own experience as an artist I know the problems upcoming artists meet. I have forms which any artist wishing to be registered has to fill to make the agreement binding to avoid duping each other in future. The agreement is profitable to both parties hence the name Mudyabwino (you will do fine),” said Kamlepo.
The promoter said he will first work with Indian shops to market Kasambwe’s album.
If not satisfied, he added, he will look into other ways of selling the music.
“We want the album to be out before Christmas. The songs are tailor made for Christmas entertainment. It is a Christmas gift to Malawians,” said Kamlepo, adding that the album will be promoted through live shows to comprise dramatists, poets, story tellers and musicians, all sharing one stage.
“This will be a new phenomenon in Malawi’s entertainment history. We want people of different entertainment tastes to come together and enjoy as a family. But all this will only be possible if the people support us,” said Kamlepo.
