Six British parliamentarians are in the country for a six- day visit where they will, among other things, assess the progress of development projects funded by
their government and the impact they have on Malawi’s economic development.
The delegation is also expected to meet President Bakili Muluzi, cabinet ministers, UN agencies and other cooperating partners with special focus on hunger, HIV/Aids and economic development.
“We are very much anxious to see how development projects funded by the British are ticking in terms of improving the Malawi’s social economic development,” said leader of delegation John Austin.
The MPs, comprising David Hanson, Peter Atkinson, John Mann, Derek Smyth, Derek Wyatt and Austin, have already called on the mayor of Lilongwe Charles Chimdzeka and British High Commissioner Norman Ling.
Atkinson said as part of assessing the hunger situation, they will visit food and agriculture projects and tea factories in Thyolo.
Ling and Chimdzeka applauded the parliamentarians for coming to Malawi, saying this shows their seriousness on the need to see Malawi develop. |
