BOXING
Two boxers Never Banda and Alfred Chindalo arrive today from Zambia to trade punches with Malawian boxers in international friendly bouts on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) general secretary Henry Sakala, who is also a promoter of Fast Sports Promotions, said his outfit has organised the bouts in conjunction with Sun Village Boxing Promotions.
“We would like our professional boxers to experience international bouts just like the amateur boxers did with their counterparts from Zimbabwe some months ago,” said Sakala.
Sakala said the first 10-round bout on Saturday will involve Banda and South African-based Leonard Kadizi of Sun Village in the welterweight category.
“We would like to give an opportunity to Leonard, who is not allowed to box in South Africa because he has no licence, to obtain a boxing certificate after playing this international bout,” he said.
The other 10-round bout involving the flyweight Jobson Adam and Chindalo will take place on Sunday at Lilongwe Community Centre.
“This is to test our boys and see if they are strong enough to stand the pressure,” said Sakala.
The Maba GS said he is confident the boys will do a good job and that Adam will do as well as he did by beating Raphael Kibwe of DRC last November.
“Entrance fee at both venues is K50 and we have made it cheap because we want a lot of people to come and watch these interesting bouts,” he said.
