'Anglican diocese fails to work'

The Upper Shire Diocese of the Anglican Church comprising 22 parishes is reported to be failing to discharge “the most important duties” to its Christians and other interested parties because it does not have a bishop.
A new priest Archbishop Benard Amos Malango was supposed to be enthroned bishop of the diocese in August but the function was called off after a priest and two Christians obtained a court injunction restraining his enthronement saying he is “not fit to head the diocese”.
Hearing of the case could not start yesterday because Judge Edward Twea, who was supposed to preside over the case, was away on other businesses.
Reverend Father Kasalika Ngulube, one of the three complainants, said in an interview at the High Court that the diocese has been “badly affected” because it has no bishop.
Ngulube said the lack of a bishop was making the diocese fail to carry out most administrative work and “important ceremonies like confirmation” cannot be conducted.
“There are a lot of important duties in a diocese which can only be done by a bishop and all these have to wait indefinitely,” said Ngulube, adding: “We’re very concerned that the case is delaying. We need to move on as a diocese but we cannot progress until this case is finalised.”
