.We have already landed three big fish—Monjeza
.We’ll get any player we want—Jussab
Total Big Bullets and Mighty MTL Wanderers yesterday disclosed that they are out on a massive hunt for new superstars ahead of the new season.
Bullets’ boss Hassam Jussab, who is on holiday in the Middle East, said in a telephone interview from Dubai yesterday afternoon that seven new sophisticates are already on their shopping list.
“There is no doubt that we had one of the best seasons, we won two trophies plus the Super League championship but we are now looking beyond that...we have to strengthen the team further because we will be participating in the Caf Champions League this year.
“I am still not convinced that this season’s performance was the best we could offer. Of late our hunger has disappeared, so has the rhythm, so we definitely have to lay off some players and get new players on board,” he said.
The Bullets head then let the cat out of the bag disclosing that MDC United’s lethal forward Mapopa Musukwa and Silver Strikers defender Itai Nundwe were some of the possible catches.
Apparently their rivals MTL Wanderers are also reportedly interested in the Soccer Saints’ star though their general secretary Aubrey Monjeza chose to keep his cards close to his chest when he was asked to comment on the issue.
Jussab said apart from the two, Bullets would also get five more new players to gee up the squad.
“There is nothing to hide here, we have to get new players and these are some of the players we feel will help us achieve our goal—that is becoming a continental heavyweight.
“Manchester United signed Rio Ferdinand who is ranked as the best defender in England. We are equally the best team in Malawi and we need to have the best players, we’ll get any player we want,” Jussab boasted.
He also said having lost the services of Peter Mponda to a Canadian club and James Chimera who went to England, coupled with the prospective departure of Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe to South Africa’s Jomo Cosmos, there was need to reorganise the team.
However, Jussab could not be drawn to disclose the names of the other five players insisting that:
“We are still talking but by the end of this month definitely we should have them in our camp.”
Monjeza also said the Nomads have intensified their drive to land three big name players.
“I cannot say much now until the season is over, that will be immediately after the BP Top 8 final. But definitely there will be big surprises shortly. We have already approached three who are ready to move to Lali Lubani...and we are now finalising one or two things.
“We are definitely going to sign four new players and the soccer fraternity will be quaked when we announce the names shortly. There are three but they could be four in the end,” said Monjeza, who added that the bulk of the team will also be laid off.
However, unconfirmed reports revealed that apart from Musukwa, the Nomads are also eyeing Silver’s gangling forward Russell Mwafulirwa among others. |
