Following the revision of the 2004 Africa Nations Cup fixtures, Malawi will host Angola’s Black Antelopes in their first Group A fixture on October 11.
In the initial fixture, the Flames were supposed to take on Nigeria’s Super Eagles at home on September 7.
National coach Kim Splidsboel said the fixture was revised a few months ago and he was aware of the developments.
“After what happened about two months ago regarding the confusion of the Cosafa Castle Cup fixture, I have been keeping my ears to the ground. We are no longer playing Nigeria next month.
“Instead we are playing Angola on October 11 or 12 and the fixture suits me fine because of the crammed nature of our diary. It would have been tougher for us if it was next month because we are also supposed to play the Cosafa Castle Cup finals,” Splidsboel said.
This will be the second time for the Flames to take on Angola this year. Malawi booted out the Cosafa Castle Cup defending champions in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory three months ago.
The Flames’ second match in the Africa Nations Cup will be against Nigeria at home again next March.
