Blantyre Hotels make K20m half year profit
by Nation Reporter, 14 May 2007 - 06:49:07

In a complete turn-around of the its fortunes, Blantyre Hotels Limited (BHL)—proprietors of Protea Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre—has reported a half year profit of K20.6 million during the period between September last year and March 31 this year compared to a loss of K29.1 million recorded during the same period last year.
BHL said in its interim financial statements released on Friday that its performance for the first half of the year to March 31 was good compared to all previous perfomances.
The group says gross turn-over during the period under review increased by 23 percent, a result attributed to good sales from room bookings.
“In addition, food and beverages areas also performed very well as the revenues increased by 21 percent during the same period,” reads the statement in part.
BHL—which is one of the two hospitality firms listed on the Malawi Stock Exchange—says in the meantime it will not declare any dividend to its shareholders.
