Fam president John Zingale on Sunday launched a K40,000 Gola Football Trophy competition at a colourful ceremony held in T/A Chapananga’s area in Chikwawa.
Zingale, who also sponsors Mzuzu and Districts Football League (MDFL), Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL), Mangochi Football League and Gola United FC, put the icing on the cake by also introducing a K10,000 Gola Netball Trophy.
“I have been sponsoring leagues in all the other areas and I felt it was time I also assisted my home district Chikwawa by launching the competitions. I feel it is one way of thanking God for what he gives me by sharing it with the villagers,” Zingale said.
He said the tournaments will help develop sports in Chikwawa West constituency.
“There is a competition which is sponsored by the Minister of Sports Hon. Moses Dossi but I felt I could also play my part as a constituent because the other part of the constituency did not have a competition,” he said.
Zingale added that in addition to the tournament, he also bought a ball each for all the 22 participating teams.
“And as one way of assisting President Bakili Muluzi in his quest to develop the game at grassroots level, I will also pay affiliation fees for 45 teams in the district to enable them take part in the Bakili Muluzi Trophy.”
The launching ceremony was attended by government and party leaders. |
