3 Fam officials to brush-up on beach soccer, futso
by Oris Chimenya, 17 April 2007 - 11:28:55
Three Football Association of Malawi (Fam) officials leave for Mozambique this morning to undergo a four-day course in beach football and futsol.
The three—general secretary Yasin Osman, technical director Eddie Ng’onamo and executive member Pikawo Ngalamila—are expected to attend the course from today until Friday.
Osman said his association will introduce both football types on their return home, adding that the course has been organised and fully funded by the world football governing body Fifa.
“Beach football is played on sand and it can take place either along the lake or anywhere as long as there is enough sand,” said Osman.
Osman said Futsol is a type of football played indoors, either in a hall or a warehouse which is marked with some lines to represent a football pitch.
“It is a sport which is played very fast using a ball smaller and harder than the usual ball. It is good for developing very young players since the walls also help to get the ball back into the pitch,” said the Fam GS.
He also said both types of football are played on a social basis but can be turned into professional activities depending on revenue raised for the events.
“The Portuguese Club in Blantyre has futsol facilities and is played on social basis but it has not yet been publicised,” he said.
According to Osman, Ngalamila is the one who will put the technical structures on the ground for the development of the games.
Over 10 countries are expected to take part in the course which will be facilitated by Fifa officials.
