by Garry Chirwa, 30 January 2007 - 08:01:36
Flames on-and-off forward Jimmy Zakazaka continues to hog the limelight in the South African first division league—the Mvela Golden League.
The Malawian prolific striker scored a hat-trick for his club Free State Stars against OR Tambo at the weekend to open a six-point gap at the summit of the table in a six-goal deluge
Zakazaka, who is enjoying an extraordinary season, is still the league’s top net-buster with 16 goals—four ahead of his hot contender Giya Sibisi who also turns out for the Stars who are popularly known as Ea Lla Koto.
“It’s my first hat-trick for Stars and I am really satisfied with our performance and if we maintain this form we can fight for promotion to the PSL,” said Zakazaka.
Stars are leading the pack with 40 points from 19 games followed by FC AK who are trailing by six points.
According to press reports from the rainbow nation, the game started at a high pace at the Goble Park stadium with the home team threatening Tambo as early as the 2nd minute. Ea Lla Koto dominated the first half with Zakazaka getting his first goal of the match in the first 20 minutes. Captain Duncan ‘King’ Lechesa led by example as he neatly converted a Prince Hlela cross to make the score 2-0 to the home team before half time.
Zakazaka took a long range shot early into the second half which found the Tambo keeper off his line to score his second goal. Ea Lla Koto were dominating from all departments and ball possession belonged to Stars on the day as the visitors attempts were easily dealt with by the Stars defence.
Lechesa got his second goal from a cracker of a shot inside the Tambo 18 area which increased the score to 4-0 with 15 minutes still to be played in the second half. Substitute Clive Hachilensa also registered his first goal of the season when his shot beat the Tambo keeper to leave the score at 5 - 0 for Ea Lla Koto.
With three minutes of regulation time left Zakazaka completed his hat-trick after Tambo keeper fumbled the ball.
