MTL Wanderers veritable treasure Moses Chavula whose sheer quality shone like a beacon in the just-ended season, is set to go for trials in Denmark next month where former Flames coach Kim Splidsboel has facilitated trials at Aalborg—a top league outfit.
Disclosing the pleasant news in an e-mail message, the ex-Flames mentor said arrangements are underway that Chavula should fly out to Europe when the transfer window reopens next month to try his luck at Aalborg which finished on a respectable fifth position last season.
Splidsboel said Chavula has been outstanding for both club and country and deserves to be given a chance to try his luck in Europe.
“Of course, there are concerns about Malawi’s current position on Fifa rankings since they are no longer in the top 100 but the club is still willing to give him a chance.
“Moses did very well for both the national team and Wanderers. He scored vital goals. Even when the Flames came here for camp training, Moses was outstanding and hopefully things will work out so that Malawi can have three players in the Danish league (the others are midfielder Joseph Kamwendo and lofty defender Clement Kafwafwa),” said Splidsboel.
Kamwendo turns out for Super League side Nordsjaelland while Kafwafwa plays for a first division club Holbaek.
Chavula, who was shortlisted for the TNM Super League player of the year award, which took place last night as we went to press, confirmed the upshot in an interview yesterday.
“Yes, I have been in touch with Kim and he has assured me that things seem to be working out but there is nothing concrete yet. I am keeping my fingers crossed because it could be a lifetime opportunity,” said Chavula.
However, the nomads said they are yet to get any communication from Splidsboel.
The club’s vice-general secretary Chipiliro Mpinganjira said: “We have not heard anything from either Kim or the player himself but should the issue come up, we’ll act on it accordingly.”
Apparently, the nomads are also on the verge of parting ways with their skipper James Sangala who is seriously linked with a possible move to a South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Benoni United.
