Ben Michael was at it again, scooping the first position during the Southern Region contest of the Malawi Music Awards, formerly the Malawi Gin Music Trophy, held at the French Cultural Centre in Blantyre on Sunday.
Michael, the current holder of the trophy and runner-up when it was launched three years ago, told The Nation after the show that he was impressed but not overwhelmed by his conquest.
Michael, who has vowed to cling to the trophy, said he had prepared intensively for the competition.
“I have worked so hard for this and I knew I deserved to win,” he said.
He said he is prepared to defend his trophy at the national finals to be held in Lilongwe after the Central and Northern region contests later this month.
The other bands that sailed through to the finals are Uhuru and Ravers.
