Big Brother Celebs, a version of the massively popular reality TV show, Big Brother SA, is underway with one casualty already out of the house.
The one week show, which features 10 South African celebrities, is a fund-raising drive by the celebrities to raise money for South African children’s charities. The show started last Sunday.
The show, which is being flighted on M-Net at set times everyday and on DStv around the clock, is expected to be as entertaining as the first Big Brother, which turned some rather ordinary people into household names.
Big Brother One had a huge and faithful following, perhaps because of certain mishaps in the garden.
Carl Fischer, Chief Executive Officer for Magic Works under which M-Net falls, observed that Big Brother Celebs is a “great opportunity to leverage the concept for worthwhile charities. It will be a lot of fun and prove that Big Brother does have a conscience after all.”
Popular South African musician Gloria Bosman became the first casualty in the show when she was voted last Wednesday night.
Bosman looked ecstatic as she was greeted by the chilly nip of Jo’burg’s winter and Mark Pilgrim. The doors quickly closed behind the other housemates as they tried to catch a glimpse of the outside world.
She thanked her friends for voting her out.
She is an active person and hates being indoors for too long. Her family were there to welcome her back and it was tight hugs all round.
“That house is tiring,” she told them.
Bosman hinted that she thought Channel O presenter Kabelo Ngakane was “crazy enough to win the show.”
Not sooner had Bosman left the House than the housemates went into the Diary Room nominating the next celeb to go.
Musician TK, former Miss South Africa Jo-Ann Strauss, Y-fm DJ Bad Boy T and Supersport presenter Neil Andrews were the names nominated for eviction. The eviction was done last night.
TK, who was up for eviction against Bosman was surprised that she wasn’t evicted. Although many of her housemates feel she wants to go, she has no problems staying.
“It’s not really about us,” she said.
“The more people call in, the more money we raise for charity.”
The other personalities in the house are actor and comedian Bill Flynn, musicians Danny and Helen Desbois and Highveld’s Sam Cowan.
Big Brother Two starts next August.
