Michiru Castles again failed to travel to Mzuzu yesterday for their BP Top 8 Group A fixture against Moyale Barracks which was scheduled for this afternoon at Mzuzu Stadium due to serious financial woes.
Fam said yesterday that it will have no choice but to award three points to the soldiers.
After failing to make the trip last weekend, Fam gave Castles a three-day grace period and switched the game to this afternoon to enable the financially-crippled side to hunt for funds.
However, Castles boss James Busile said yesterday that the trip was a nonstarter because they had failed to raise the funds.
“The position as at now is that we are not going because we have failed to find the money needed for the trip. Fam offered us their minibus but we needed some money for fuelling, food and accommodation costs.
“In addition to that, we hear the sponsors BP (Malawi) Limited have turned down the request we made through Fam to release our K150,000 allocation to help us make the trip. So we have no choice. In the past I have had to cough my personal money to assist the team but I do not have money now,” Busile said.
Fam general secretary Chris Kamphinda Banda said in a separate interview that the association had tried its best to assist Castles.
“Apart from offering the minibus, we also wrote to the sponsors, asking them if it was possible for them to release Castles allocation but I have just received a call from them to say they cannot do that because they will be setting a negative precedent.
“There is no other way out. If we postpone the match again then we’ll also be setting a bad precedent and, therefore, if they fail to go to Mzuzu, the match will be awarded to Moyale.”
If Castles fail to fulfill the fixture, they will wind up the first round with no point from three games. They lost to Admarc Tigers 3-0 and Total Big Bullets 7-0.
