People in Chiradzulu West and Salima North vote today in parliamentary by-elections which were postponed in April pending a court decision on the eligibility of independent candidates in the two constituencies.
Candidates contesting in the Chiradzulu West poll are Richard Chanache running on the ruling UDF ticket and independent candidate Edward Sawerengera, according to the Electoral Commission.
In Salima North, MCP’s Canaan Kaphamtengo Yona is facing independent candidate Allan Gedion Nthara.
The Commission, in a statement yesterday, urged registered voters in the two constituencies to “go to polling centres to exercise their right to vote for candidates to represent them in the National Assembly.”
