Member of Parliament for Karonga Central sent Parliament into laughter on Thursday afternoon when he told the House that Chinese contractors working on Wovwe Hydro-Power station impregnated a lot of women in the district and abandoned them at the end of their contract.
The MP, Frank Mwenifumbo (Aford) said that his constituents were worried that the Chinese contractors presently working on the Karonga-Chitipa road may also “leave a lot of offsprings” at the end of their contract.
“Mr. Speaker, Sir, what mitigation measures are there to ensure that they (contractors) do not leave Chinese offsprings?” Mwenifumbo asked when Minister of Transport and Public Works Kaliyoma Phumisa commented on the road project.
“People in my constituency are concerned,” Mwenifumbo told the House.
However, Speaker Sam Mpasu laughed off the MP’s concern saying he should be proud that women in his constituency were so beautiful that the Chinese could not help proposing love to them.
The Chinese government is financing part of the Karonga-Chitipa road.
