IT experts to celebrate
by Naomi Msowoya, 07 September 2006 - 08:03:12
Information Technology (IT) specialists in the country will for the first time on September 16 this year join the rest of the world in commemorating Software Freedom Day.
LinuxChix Africa (Malawi chapter) has organised a function in partnership with Malawi Open Source Society (Moss) and the Department of Computing and IT at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, to sensitise people on the use of Free and Open Source Software (Foss).
LinuxChix representative in Malawi Priscilla Maliwichi said the celebrations’ goal is to educate the public globally about the benefits of using high quality Foss in education, government, at home and in business.
“During this event, female students from the Faculty of Applied Science of the Malawi Polytechnic and from various IT organisations in the industry will present what they know about Foss,” said Maliwichi.
She said: “LinuxChix Malawi chapter was formed early this year to create an open sisterhood in computing through sharing, involvement and empowerment by using Foss.”
